Hey there.
I’m Nenad. Since you’re here you’re either stalking or want to know more about me 😁. In any case …
Profesionally – I’m a digital marketer hyperfocused on SEO and other aspects of technical marketing.
Highlight Reel
Here’s a couple of highlights of what I did and the main lesson I took from a particular role. I find traditional role descriptions a bit yuckie, so I basically made a list of what I did and what my main takeaways from those roles were.
You can find my CV at the bottom of the page.
In-house SEO & digital marketer for a niche travel operator
Main success: growing relevant traffic by 30%.
Lesson learned: How to use search queries to understand market demand and NOT focus on the mechanics of SEO.
What Helped?: Entering SEO & Content marketing from sales. I’d recommend sales to pretty much anyone as it’s a roller coaster of learning how to handle people.
Frog to eat: Don’t hold off on learning technical stuff.
Tl;dr: SEO, analytical thinking, connecting dots
Agency marketing manager
Lesson learned: How to succesfully operate multiple clients, basically do sales work all the while managing expectations from direct reports and management. While having basically zero domain knowledge in our clients’ respective fields. Oh, and learning to say no.
What helped: Once again, sales.
Frog to eat: Learn how to report effectively, ASAP. At this point I’ve learnt more words = less clarity.
Tl;dr: client and people juggling/pleasing
SEO Specialist @ a Massive Ecomm
Main success: Growing traffic to advisory content by 1000ish %, growing traffic to attributed categories (aka filters).
What helped: Getting my ass handed to me by devs on Slack, making my learning on how to do structure, create and prioritize work as painful as possible.
Lesson learned: Oh my god the scale. Millions upon millions of URLs. Stuff breaking. Trying to get tickets through. Learning how product works. Looking to find lowest possible hanging fruit. Learning that people are not there for you to satisfy your whims and that you have to convince them to help you out.
Frog to eat: Learn some cloud stuff ASAP, and how to collect and store data as soon as possible. At this scale, you need input from multiple teams, so you need to figure out how they’re organized and how you can fit into their workflow as painlessly as possible.
Tl;dr: project & product
SEO @ Largest Regional Insurance Company
Lesson learned: If it’s not the scale of the project, it’s the scale of the company. If you don’t like how communication/collaboration is done, fix it yourself. Effective PowerPoints are everything.
What helped: Doing work on a scale and not getting disheartened by having to work through multiple people to get simple stuff done. At this scale, simple is very effective.
Frog to eat: TBD, need more hindsight on this one. But at this point I’d say – presentations are not as “legacy” as you may think.
